Canadian Politics Might Never be the Same

Well, it looks like Steven Harper played chicken with the wrong people. He, well the finance minster, put forward a budget update. Which did nothing for the economy, and every thing was political. So what do the opposition parties do? Well they learn how to pull their own wieght.
They have decided that they will cause the current government to fall, and create their own. Yup, not a new election, but a new government. This could make Stephane Dion a legend, he will show that Canadian Politics have turned over a new leaf. This coalition will mark the change, if it happens, where we move from a single party rule to who ever has the most support in the house.
This is a wonderful change, if it happens.

I disagree. This is not wonderful.
It's an undemocratic election of a new government without consent of the Canadian government.

Parliament has the right to bring down the government, but not to create it's own government without the approval of the people.

Let me clarify something: I'm all for coalition governments, non-confidence votes, etc. as long as it is the will of Canadian citizens as determined through democratic means.

However, what I do have a problem with is that they are forming a new government without a general election. i.e. the government itself decided who should be running. That is what I think is not wonderful.

The way I see it is that we all elect MPs for our ridings. These MPs have the autonomy to allign as they wish (theoretically to represent the views of their consituants). MPs jump around from party to party from time to time (remember Belinda Stronach?).

This is the same thing just on a much larger scale. So much so, that it changes the party in power.
We did not vote for a leader, we voted for a MP.
