What a Girl Wants

Well I was watching 'What a Girl Wants' yesterday, which I realized a while in I had already seen it. I was taken aback by the main plot line. A girl finds out that her dad is a famous politician, trys to catch up with him during an election. She does not fit his Aristocratic lifestyle, she is American. So yes it is a chickflick made for teenage girls, but what ever I watched it. I was shocked that the daughter felt fine that she could jump into her father's life and make him change into what she wants.
The father is in one of his most stressful moments of his life, he is running for the Prime Minister of the UK. Which would be his life goal, it is what he has been working towards for many years. The Daughter, he did not know existed, comes in and demands that she becomes the center of his life. I would hope that my children would understand that it is a stressful time and that in a month that will have more time to make their relationship work.
I was also taken aback about how it was okay for her to do this. She is the main character and everybody appears to be okay with her forcing her father to change. It is true that her father is not completely happy in his current position but I would never want to put some one in the position of choosing between their goal and me. It is true that he should put his family before his job, but he does he trys to find a balance between both issues. She just demands to have all of his attention, and will not go along and help him during the most important moment of his political career.
She forces him to choose between who he currently is and who she wants him to be. I am pretty sure that would never happen in real life, the Daughter is just too demanding, but does not realize it. I hope that I do not have any kids that I do not know about come jumping into my life when I am running for office (like that would ever happen).
