Well, I read the news very often, when ever I have nothing else to do (and now i will be posting a lot as well). So if found two interesting articles today, one on a happy note, another on a sad note.
So the happy note is the new Northern Busway that has been built in Auckland New Zealand. (I look at New Zealand news every once and awhile to see what is happening over there). This is one of the new public transportation system or policies that is being put into place in Auckland. This Busway is a system that is similar to the Ottawa Transit ways and the public transportation system in Bogota. These systems are in my point of view just a step to more advanced system. I personally like LRT (light rail transit) over BRT (bus rapid transit). The new Northern Busway does have the possibility of becoming a LRT line in the future, even though this may be in a while. Many LRT have BRT lines in place first so they build up ridership, Calgary, Edmonton are just some examples. I did spend a long time looking into this plan and the region of Auckland's growth management plans. This was a great way to procrastinate and educate your self as well.
Later this evening I decided to look at the news again, and found a very sad story. About how a family's lives where destroyed because the father took the lives of his family. What is worse, and I am doing it as well, is that their personal pain is spread all over the media. Why do we care about peoples personal issues, and have to know about them. I do understand that we should support them with our thoughts and prayers, but should know everything about it. Should we really care about these issues.
Well I am sure that you will be reading a heck of a lot more of my input about social issues, public transit, and random news articles

My first post
Well my friend named Tim, who will name his first child Bowser, told be about Dunbar's number. This theory is based on the number of people who can be your friend at any time. This number is around 150 people, my goal in life is now to break this number and to have more friends than that number for an extended period of time. But since I am very bad at remembering basic things, such as names, this will take me many many years of work to accomplish.
The number also relates the number of people that can stay in a group that full of community. Once the group became larger than around 150 it would no longer be sustainable. This is shocking because I am apart of a community that is becoming larger than the magic number. This means that my community that I love so much could become less and less close. This also becomes a major issue when dealing with Planning the urban environment, which my major and I love so dear. (if you know me in real life you will know this well). How can you get a community of over 100,000 people to join together on a specific issue and find a common good. That also brings up issue of what is the common good for a community, and who decides what the common good is.
