Last night when I was about ready to go to bed, the room light up with a flash, then I heard the thunder. I love lightning, to be it is a sign of summer, a large storm is happening, when the storm is over the world will look, feel, smell different. Last night was not one of those wonderful storms. It was in the middle of winter and it was raining, should have been snowing but it was raining. This has been the story of this winter, at least to me.
The first time I saw lightning in winter was my last winter in highschool. That was 3 years ago, 2005 I believe. It was I think the second week in January and I was in London, On. It was snowing, unlike the rain of yesterday, and when I was falling asleep the lightning happened. I thought at that time I would only see that once and made a mental note about it (I guess my mental note worked). Now on the other hand I think it is kind of Normal to have thunder and lightning during the winter time. I know that it is not normal and we have to be worried about it but I have seen it happen many winters since the first time. I have become accustomed to the lightning, what will the climate have to do in order to shock us into realizing that something is not right.
I have found this winter one of many extremes. Snow to no snow, cold to warm. This year it felt like winter was never going to come. Then when it did it came like crazy, snowing where i was up to a foot or more. Something I have not seen at that location ever. But with in a week the weather had removed most of the snow, the temperature rose and it rained, causing most of the wonderful snow to be gone my Christmas. It snowed again and I hoped that the snow would stay for good, I love snow, the first week back at school was wonderfully warm causing all of the snow to melt, even large piles which I thought would not melt till spring. Then recently their was so much snow in my location that we had a snow day, I think we could have actually had a day of school but I do not mind missing school. Then last night less than a week later it was raining and we had lightning.
I hope that our winter will be a 'normal' one where it snows and the snow stays until spring when it melts and floods everything. The weather appears to be going up and down for the next while so the cycle my continue. There has even been snow in Palestine and Iraq, too bad snow does not bring peace.
